NHAI Rule 2025 - Important news for drivers. Actually, let us tell you that with the construction of new highways and expressways in the country, toll tax is also increasing, but there is a situation when you will not have to pay toll. In such a situation, let us know the new guidelines of NHAI related to this in the news below-

News, Digital Desk- With the construction of new highways and expressways in the country, toll tax is also increasing, but there is a situation when you will not have to pay toll.
According to an old tweet by NHAI (National Highways Authority of India), if the queue of vehicles at the toll booth becomes more than 100 meters long, then the vehicles will be allowed to go ahead without any payment. This rule is so that the long queues at the toll booth can be reduced and the traffic continues to run smoothly.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had announced in 2021 that toll plazas will have a maximum payment time of 10 seconds per vehicle. Also, even during peak hours, there cannot be a queue of vehicles longer than 100 metres from the toll booth.
To enforce this rule, a yellow line has been drawn at a distance of 100 metres from the booth in each toll lane. If the queue of vehicles crosses this yellow line, the toll lane will be temporarily made toll-free. As soon as the queue comes back within 100 metres, toll tax will start being collected again.
What is the 60 km rule-
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways says that according to Fee Rule 2008, the distance between two toll plazas on any highway should be 60 km.
This has also been confirmed by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. He had said that his goal is to have only one toll plaza on the highway within 60 km.
At present, the distance between them can be reduced. The ministry has argued behind this that sometimes due to lack of space, traffic, congestion etc., there can be two toll plazas within a radius of 60 km.
Difference between toll tax and road tax - There
is a main difference between road tax and toll tax. Road tax is paid by the driver to the RTO. This is for the use of roads in the entire state. On the other hand, toll tax is collected on a particular road like highway or expressway.
This money does not go to the state government but to the highway construction company or NHAI. This is to bear the cost of construction and maintenance of that particular road.
