What did the Finance Ministry say-

The Finance Ministry was asked how many 10 rupee notes and coins are currently in circulation in the country. Responding, the Finance Ministry has said that both 10 rupee notes and coins are in circulation and being printed in the country. 

As of December 31, 2024, there were 2,52,886 lakh 10 rupee notes (total worth Rs 25,289 crore) and 79,502 lakh 10 rupee coins (total worth Rs 7,950 crore) in the market. (Indian currency update)

New 20 rupee notes are still being printed.

Along with this, the Ministry of Finance was asked whether printing of new 20 rupee notes has been banned in the country. Responding to the question, the Finance Ministry said that no, this is not the case. 

That is, it is clear that even though you may see less 10 rupee and 20 rupee notes and coins in the market, they are still in circulation. The news that comes from time to time about them being discontinued or going out of circulation is completely misleading.

20 rupee coins were issued for the first time in 2020-

According to a report, the Government of India issued a Rs 20 coin for the first time in 2020. It is a 12-edged polygon with a grain shape that reflects the agricultural dominance of the country. Along with this, new circular coins of Rs 1, 2, 5 and 10 will also be issued, on which the value will be written in Hindi.

The Finance Ministry has released the details of the new Rs 20 coin. The coin will weigh 8.54 grams and have a diameter of 27 mm. It will be made of nickel silver in the outer ring and nickel brass in the inner part. 

The obverse of the coin will have the lion capital of the Ashoka Pillar and 'Satyameva Jayate' inscribed below. 'Bharat' will be written in Hindi on the left and 'India' in English on the right.
