Breaking News, Digital Desk- ( 2000 Rupee Notes News) In May 2023, the government withdrew the ₹ 2000 note from circulation, the main reason for which was the difficulty faced by people in transactions as there was often a shortage of small notes. 

According to a recent report of the Reserve Bank of India, even after two years of this move, ₹ 6,266 crore worth ₹ 2000 notes are still in circulation. This information has been obtained from RBI data. (Indian Currency)

2000 notes were discontinued on 19 May 2023-

Despite the announcement of demonetisation of ₹2000 notes on 19 May 2023, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has clarified that these notes still remain legal tender. As of 30 April 2025, ₹6,266 crore worth of ₹2000 notes were in circulation.

As of May 19, 2023, the total value of Rs 2,000 bank notes in circulation at that time was Rs 3.56 lakh crore. The central bank said, "Thus, 98.24 percent of the Rs 2,000 bank notes in circulation as of May 19, 2023 have been returned." (RBI Latest Update)

Till October 7, 2023, the facility to deposit or exchange ₹2000 banknotes was available in all bank branches across the country. Additionally, from May 19, 2023, the facility to exchange the ₹2000 notes withdrawn from circulation is also available at 19 issue offices of the Reserve Bank of India. 

From October 9, 2023, these issue offices of RBI are also accepting ₹2000 banknotes from people and institutions for depositing them in their bank accounts.

This facility was provided with the aim of bringing ₹ 2000 notes back into the banking system. Apart from this, people can also send 2,000 rupees notes through Indian Post to any issue office of RBI (RBI update) within the country. This money gets deposited in their bank account.
